එ, n. The eleventh letter of the alphabet: a pure short vowel having the sound of e as heard in met. Its non-initial form (‍ෙ) is written before the consonant it vocalizes, as ‍දෙන් den, මෙන් men.

එ ගොඩ, n. or a. or ad. the other side or bank (of river &c.), the other shore; on the other side; across (the water).

එ ගොඩකරනවා, v. t. to get or convey across (the water).

එ ගොඩවෙනවා, v. i. to cross over, get to the opposite shore.

එ තන, ad. there, in that place.

එ තනින්, ad. from that place, thence.

එ තර, n. the opposite shore: see එගොඩ &c.

එ තැන් පටන්, ad. from that time or place.

එ තුම, pron. hon. (තුම for උතුමා, from උත්තම): his honour, he, ඒ උත්තමයා.

එ තුමිය, එතුමී, pron. fem. hon. that lady, she, ඒ උත්තමී.

එ තෙම, හෙ තෙම, pron. res. he, උන්නාන්සේ.

එ දා, n. or ad. that day; on that day.

එ දින් එදාට, එදිනෙදාට, ad. from day to day; fig. from hand to mouth.

එ දෙස් ‍මෙ දෙස්, ad. here and there, hither and thither.
