අ නිලයා, n. Æolus, god of the wind: there are 49 minor deities called අනිල;; pl. අනි‍ලයෝ.

අට දික් පතියෝ, or පාලයෝ, n. pl. the eight rulers or guardian deities who preside over the eight parts of the world.

අට පිරිස, n. the eight retinues that attended Buddha, viz. military or royal persons, brahmayas, regents of planets, B. priests, Chāturmahārājika gods (the four imperial gods), the Tautisā gods, Māra deities and Brahma: ක්ෂත්‍රියයෝ or රජවරු, බ්‍රහ්මයෝ, ග්‍රහපතියෝ, ශ්‍රම ණයෝ, චාතුර්‍මහාරාජික දෙවිවරු, තව්තිසා දෙවි වරු, මාර දේවතාවරු, මහාබ්‍රහ්මයා. ගණේශ, n. (ගණ companies or classes, ඊශ Lord), the god of wisdom, son of Siva and පාර්‍වතී. His image in H. temples is that of a short, fat man with an elephant's head. He is appealed to and worshipped as the remover of obstacles in all undertakings and compositions. He is chief of the various classes of subordinate deities who are Siva's attendants.

පාත්‍ර·ධාතුව, n. bowl-relic presented to Buddha by the guardian deities of the four quarters of the world. It is said it was made of the clay of blue sapphire, and was afterwards brought from India and placed as a sacred relic in a Dāgoba on the border of the Mahaweli ganga near Kandy.

වරම්·දෙවියෝ, n. pl. guardian deities of the four quarters, see සතරවරම් දෙවියෝ.

විෂ්ණු, විෂ්ණුදෙවියෝ, n. (විශ් to enter, pervade), the second of the three chief H. deities, who‍ is said to be the preserver of the world. He has had many incarnations or Avatàrs, and in Krishna he is said to have been wholly incarnate.

ශ්‍රී, prefix to names of deities, eminent persons, sacred objects &c. signifying excellence, beauty, fame &c.

සතර·වරම්·දෙවියෝ, n. pl. (වරම් chief), the four guardian deities of the four cardinal points and the four quarters of the world, viz. on the East, ධෘතරාෂ්ට්‍ර, chief-of the ගන්‍ධර්‍ව යෝ on the South විරුඪ, chief of the කුම්භා ණ්ඩයෝ; on the West, විරූපාක්‍ෂ, chief of the නාගයෝ; on the North, වෛශ්‍රවණ, chief of the යක්‍ෂයෝ.
