ගහණය, n. E. of ග්‍රහණ: eclipse. E. S.

ග්‍රයණය, n. taking, accepting, seizing, seizure, ගැනීම, ඇල්ලීම; eclipse of the sun or moon (supposed to be seized by Rāhu).

චන්‍ද්‍ර·ග්‍රහණය, n. lit. seizure of the moon, viz. eclipse of the moon.

රාහු, n. The ascending node considered as a demon. In H. myth. his mother was සිංහිකා; he was a dragon-tailed demon whom Vishnu decapitated in his wars with the demons during his incaruation as රාමචන්‍ද්‍ර, but as Ràhu was immortal his head and tail retained their separate existence and in the stellar sphere became the cause of eclipses, especially the head by attempting from time to time to swallow the sun and moon. The B. account differs considerably from the above, but agrees that Ràhu causes the eclipses as above said. Ràhu's head went to the North and his tail, කේතු, to the South and became respectively the ascending and descending nodes. See Hardy's Manual of Buddhism.

රාහුග්‍රස්ත, a. seized by Ràhu, viz. eclipsed, ග්‍රහණයවී තිබෙන.

රාහුග්‍රහය, n. Ràhu's seizure: eclipse, සූර්‍ය්‍ය or චන්‍ද්‍ර ග්‍රහණය

විධුන්තද, n. (විධුන් moon acc. case, තද් to pain), ap. of Rahu, as causer of the moon's eclipse by attempting to swallow it, see රාහු.

සති·සමෝහය, n. (සති intellect), eclipse or loss of reason, stupefaction, සිහිනැතිවීම or සිහිමුළාව, fainting, කලාන්තවීම.

සූර්‍ය්‍ය·ග්‍රහණය, සූර්‍ය්‍ය·ග්‍රහය, n. solar seizure, viz. eclipse of the sun: see ග්‍රහණය.

සෝපප්ලව, n. (සඋප:), portent, eclipse of the sun or moon, ග්‍රහය. E. S.
