අ චිරවතිය, n. second of the five great rivers issuing from lake Anavatatta. See අනව තත්ත විල.

අංගුත්තර සඟීය, n. (අංග උත්තර), the fourth of the five parts of the සූත්‍රපිටකය.

අතෙව වැද, n. pl. the five musical instruments. See පංචතූර්‍ය්‍යවාද්‍ය.

අධෝ ගම වාතය, n. (ගම going), wind passing downwards (from the body), said to be one of the five vital airs.

අනඟ සැර, n. pl. Cupid's arrows, of which there are five.

අනුපාදිශේෂ, a. (අන් උපාදි:), pert. to extinction or absence of the five elements (පංච ස්කන්ධ) of which beings consist and which bar the way to Nirvāna, unresidual, elementless, ස්කන්ධ ශේෂ නැති.

අපානය, n. (අප down, අන් to breathe), one of the five vital airs, viz. that which passes downwards, breaking wind: the anus, අධෝ මාර්‍ගය.

අභි ඥාත, a. ascertained, known, දැන‍‍‍ගනතිබෙව, දන්නාලද, අභිඥානය, අභිඥාව n profound or sp. or extraordinary knowledge, cognition, recognition, විශේෂ දැනගැන්ම or දැනීම; five supernatural acquirements of Rahats, viz. power to assume any form, to hear the feeblest sounds and see objects at any distance, to know the disposition and thoughts of others, to know the condition of any person in former existences.

අමුණ, n. grain measure of five or six bushels; a measure of land as much as an amuna of grain will sow, viz. from 2 to 2½ acres; pl. අමුණු.

අර්‍ජුන, n. Arjuna, a king who has a thousand arms; peacock, ‍මොනරා; the third of the five Pāndava princes, තුන්වෙනි පාණ්ඩව. Bot.

අර්‍ධ යාමය, n. half a watch, period of two English or five Sinhalese hours.

අශේල්ෂාව, n. ninth lunar mansion, containing five stars.

අෂ්ට දුෂ්ට ක්ෂණ, n. pl. the eight evil moments or occasions, viz. to be born 1 in hell, 2 as an animal, 3 as a goblin, 4 in the two Brahma worlds where neither body nor mind exists, 5 in outer or distant countries where Buddhism is not, 6 with the five senses perverted or confused, 7 as a pagan, 8 in a Buddhaless age.

ආනන්තර්‍ය්‍ය කර්‍ම, n. pl. deeds or results without an interval, i. e. the five අකුසල් which are to be punished in the very next life, viz. matricide, patricide, the murder of a Rahat, shedding blood of a Buddha, schism (amongst the priesthood, සංඝභේදය), and the eight කුසල් or අෂ්ටසමාපති which are to be at once rewarded.

කාමභෝගී, a. enjoying or using the five senses, viz. non-ascetic, laic, ගිහි.
