අවතාරය, n. apparition, ghost, fantasm, spectre, sprite, manes, ප්‍රේතයා; in ancient usage: descent or incarnation of a god, as of Vishnu in the form of a fish, tortoise, boar, man-lion (නෘසිංහ), dwarf, the two Rāmas, Krishna, Buddha, Kalki &c.; also for අවතරණය.

නර·සිංහයා, n. man-lion, viz. chief, hero or eminent person; ap. of Buddha, also of Vishnu in his fourth incarnation in which he took the guise of a man-lion in order to destroy two formidable giants.
