උ, n. The seventh vowel of the alphabet. Its sound is that of oo in Foot. Its non-initial forms /?/ and ු called පාපිල්ල—lower or foot piece—are placed below the consonant they vocalize, as කු, මු, koo, moo.

උණුහුම් මඩුව, n. hot-house.

උනන්දු, a. active, lively, brisk, energetic.

උද්‍යෝගය, n. exertion, effort, zeal, වීර්‍ය්‍යය.

උදදිය, උද ධිය, උදදිනිඳු, n. water holder, water-lord, viz. the sea, මුහුද.

උප වේශනය, උප වේශය, n. sitting, resting, ඉඳ ගැනීම; a seat, ආසනය; evacuation (by stool), පැහැරීම.

උව මනාවෙනවා, v. i. to become or be necessary, ඕනෑකරනවා.

උන්මත්ත, උන්මාද, a. insane, demented, mad, ඔල්මාද.

උපාලි, n. name of the compiler of the Vinaya Pitaka.

උණ මකුළු, n. bamboo pith or flower, used medicinally. See තක්.
