ධ්‍යානය, n. B., meditation, profound contemplation, concentration of the thought and purpose in order to obtain Nirvāna, such an intentness of mind that it is supposed to exclude objects of sense so that they are unperceived or make no impression. Previous page -- 312 -- second, is one of finding or joy (ප්‍රීතිය); the fourth, චතුථි ධ්‍යානය, as the result of the third, is one of sound condition or satisfaction (සුඛය); the fifth, පංචම ධ්‍යානය, as the result of the fourth, is one of perfect mental quietude and repose (ඒකාග්‍රතාව). The following may illustrate the different stages. The first may be compared to thirst; the second, to the seeking of water; the third, to the joy of finding it; the fourth, to the benefit and satisfection derived from drinking it; the fifth, to the quiet repose and rest in the shade after the want has been satisfied.

පරි·කසිණ, n. (පරි around, කසිණ all), an observance and attainment of ascetics preparatory to the performance of ධ්‍යාන: it consists of one of the following, viz. තේජෝකසිණ, ආ පෝකසිණ, ආකාසෝකසිණ or පඨවිකසිණ. The mind and all its faculties must be so concentrated upon its object that nothing else is perceptible to the senses. See each one of the four.

ප්‍රථම·ධ්‍යානය, n. B., first stage of meditation or concentration of thought: this first ධ්‍යා නය is a state of විතර්‍කය. See ධ්‍යානය.

බෝධ්‍යංග, n. pl. (බෝධි අංග), Buddha attributes or requisites for attaining Buddhaship, viz. the following seven: සමෘතිය, remembrance, ධර්‍මවිචය, investigation of religious truth, වීර්‍ය්‍යය effort, ප්‍රීතිය joy, ප්‍රශ්‍රබ්ධිය mental tranquillity, සමාධිය concentrated meditation, උපේක්‍ෂාව impassiveness, stoicism.

යොමුකරනවා, v. t. to concentrate, gather to a focus, direct towards, fix or apply (the mind &c.).

යොමුවෙනවා, n. i. to become concentrated &c., engrossed with.

යෝගය, n. joining, සන්‍ධිකිරීම; junction, combination, union. සන්‍ධිය, සංයෝගය, එක්වීම; concentration of thought, religions abstrac-‍ tion or meditation, ධ්‍යානය; comnound of medicine as what is prescrihed, ඖෂධයෝගය; fitness, adaptability, යෝග්‍යකම; ast. 27th part of 360° measured on the plane of the ecliptic and used to calculate longitudes of the sun and moon.

රඳා·තිබෙනවා, v. i. to be fixed, settled or concentrated on.

සංගතකරනවා, v. t. to collect, attract, concentrate, unite, එකතුකරනවා, යොමුකරනවා, සන්‍ධි කරනවා.

සමාධානය, සමාධිය, සමාධි·යෝගය, n. (සං with, ආ to, ධා to hold), keeping the mind and thoughts intent on, composure, reverie, concentrated and devout meditation, see ධ්‍යාන ය; religious vow, බාරය; reconciling, සමා දානකිරීම.

ස්ථාපනය, n. act of placing, fixing, තැබීම, පිහිටු වීම; fixing or concentration of the mind in meditation, සිතයොමුකිරීම.
