ඉක්ෂවාකු, n. name of the first king of the Suryavansa. Gautama Buddha was a descendant of this line.

කෞරවයා, n. descendant of Kuru: see කුරු.

ගත්තරයා, n. descendant of captives or condemned criminals.

දරුමුනුබුරෝ, n. pl. children and grandchildren, descendants, posterity.

දෙමළ·ගත්තරා, n. person of a caste so called: they are supposed to be descendants of Tamil captives taken by Sinhalese kings.

පාණ්ඩවයා, n. Pāndavite or descendant of Pāndu.

පැවතඑන්නා, n. descendant; pl. descendants, posterity.

පුරාණය, n. One of a class of H. sacred and poetical works, which are said to have been compiled or composed by the poet ව්‍යාස. Of these there are eighteen, with eighteen supplementary works called Upa Purana, උප පුරාණ. They treat of the creation, destruction and renovation of worlds, the genealogy and achievements of gods and heroes, the reigns of the Man us and the transactions of their descendants. These works constitute the H. theology, and are much studied.

යාදවා, n. ap. of Krishna as a descendant of king Yadu.

සිංහල, a. Sinhalese: (සිංහ lion, ල to take or bay). The word is said to be derived from සිංහබාහු whose father was a lion. සිංහබාහු bew the lion, and in consequence his descendants from his son විජය who conquered and colonized Ceylon received the name සිංහල.
