අ කාල කර්‍මය, n. untimely deed or event, mishap, ප්‍රස්තාවට නුසුදුසු දෙය, අවාසනාව.

අ ගති ගමන, n. perverse course, inauspicious journey or event; evil or perverted judgment or decision.

අකුරකින් විදිනවා, v. to shoot with a small stone for augury. This is done by taking stones between the two fore-fingers and projecting them against the bark and leaves of trees and then predicting coming events according to the marks made by the stones.

අගුල් දමනවා, v. to bolt or bar; fig. debar, preclude, prevent, වළක්වනවා.

අධ‍‍වාන්‍තය, n. (අන්තය), evening twilight, as the end of the sun's journey, හිමිදිරිය.

අභි ධර්‍ම පිටකය, n. transcendent-doctrine repository, viz. the third Pitaka. It is divided into seven sections, viz. ධම්මසඬගණී, විභංග, ධාතුකථා, පුග්ගල පඤ්ඤත්ති, කථාවන්ථු, යමක, පට්ඨාන.

අරළු, yellow myrobalan, Terminalia Chebula, of which seven varieties are distinguished (Combret.).

අව මංගල්‍යය, n. funeral; calamitous event or occasion, විපත, විපත්ති ප්‍රස්තාව.

අවන්ති, n. name of the city Oujein: one of the seven sacred cities of India, to die in which secures eternal bliss; also name of the country, මාලවදේශය.

අශ්ව කර්‍ණය, n. lit. horse-ear, a plant (see Bot.); name of the seventh circle of rocks around Maha Mera: see සප්තකූට පර්‍වත.

අස් ගසනවා, අස් ගහනවා, v. t. to smoothen, make level or even.

අස්තය, n. setting of the sun &c., ඉරබැසීම; end of life, මරණය; seventh sign of the zodiac.
