අව මත, a. (අව low, මත regarded), despised, contemned, scorned, සුළුකොට or නීචකොට සිතනලද, despicable, නීච.

ඉන්ද්‍ර, ඉන්ද්‍රදෙවියෝ, ඉන්ද්‍රයා, n. the Hindu Deity Indra, regarded as the Supreme of ස්වර්‍ගය and the inferior gods.

ක්ලේශය, n. any passion, desire or evil affection, අභිලාෂය, කෙලෙස්; sorrow, affliction, care, දුක. B. teaches that ක්ලේශය or desire is the root of all sin and sorrow, and renders transmigration and continued existence inevitable until all ක්ලේශ are subdued and exterminated; when that is accomplished නිර්‍වාණ or non-existence is attained. The non-attainment of it,—that is, continued conscious existence,—is regarded as a calamity, and it is the supreme object of B. and its laws and observances to effect the extermination of ක්ලේශ.

ගයා, n. the city Gayā in Bīhār, famed as the residence of Buddha and also called Buddha Gayā, and regarded as a sacred place by Hindus. Buddha is said to have been born in a forest near this city.

දක්‍ෂිණ·ශංඛය, n. right-hand chank shell, shell opening to the right hand, such a shell is regarded as very valuable.

දද·පෙළ, n. line or string of various flags, used as festive ornamentation for a temple, to present which is regarded as very meritorious.

දික්·හදාය, n. fiery meteor, regarded as one of the five evil omens of the sky.

නෙළුම්, නෙළුඹු, lotus, Nelumbium speciosum (Nymph.), regarded as a sacred flower.

පංච·පක්‍ෂියෝ, n. pl. the five birds regarded in augury: Garuda (Vishnu's bird), the owl, cock. crow and the peacock.

පාප·රෝගය, n. virulent disease, such as small-pox, lepro‍sy &c., as regarded as the result of sin.

බෝ,බෝගහ, peepul or sacred fig-tree, Ficus religiosa (Urti.). It is regarded as sacred because, it is said, on the day when Gautama attained Buddhahood he sat down under it on a throne which had miraculouby sprung up for him on the instant: see බෝධිපර්‍ය්‍යංකය.

භව·කාන්තාරය, n. fig. the desert or wilderness of existence (existence being regarded as an evil), සංසාරය නැමති කාන්තාරය.

මනු, n. celebrated H. legibator and saint, who is regarded as the representative man and father of the human race. In every Kalpa fourteen Manus appear successively and preside over the Universe, each one for the period of a මන්‍වන්තරය, which see.

වජ්‍රය, n. diamond, දියමන්තිය; thunder-bolt, අකුණ, sp, thunderbolt of Indra, the thunderbolt and diamond being regarded as alike in hardness or perhaps the same substance.

විෂ්ණු·ක්‍රාන්තා, a small flowering plant, regarded as sacred to Vishnu, Evolvulus alsinoides (Convol.)
