ඇ, n. The third vowel of the alphabet, though in some grammars and vocabularies this and the next are placed last of all. Its sound is a modification of අ, and like the sound of a in fat, bat, mat. Its non-initial form is (ැ) following the consonant it vocalizes, as කැබ්, cab.

ඇන්නවීම, ඇන්වීම, v. n. of අන්වනවා: causing to pierce &c.

ඇඳිරි, a. dim, dusky, dark, අඳුරු.

ඇන්නෑ, ඈන්නෑවක්, int. botheration! nuisance! Oh, dear me!

ඇස, ඇහැ, n. fr. අක්ෂි: eye; chit or germ of a seed, බීජයේ දළුව, බීජාංකුරය; pl. ඇස්.

ඇස් බැම, n. eyebrow; pl. ඇස්බැමි.

ඇකි, v. aux. to be able: see හැකි.

ඇවිලෙනවා, v. i. to burn, blaze; fig. rankle; (of pain) shoot, lancinate; pret. ඇවුලුණා.

ඇතිරීම, v. n. of අතුරනවා and ඇතිරෙනවා: spreading &c.
