ශ, n. The first of the seventh or sibilant class of letters. It is a palatal sibilant and its true sound is probably a light Sh as heard in the word Cession; but in general usage it does not differ from the dental ස. Some words are written either with ශ or ස.

ශර්‍කරාවත්, a. gravelly, stony, gritty, වැලි ඇට සමානවූ or සමානදේ මිශ්‍රවූ.

ශෛත්‍ය, n. (fr. ශීත), cold, coldness, ශීතලය, සිසිල්කම.

ශුද්‍රයා, n. mas. male of the fourth or servile caste, said to have sprung from the feet of Brahma, a sudra.

ශිලා·ලේඛනය, n. inscription on stone or tablet, rock-inscription.

ශාසනික, a. governing, ආණ්ඩුකාර; instructing, advising, ආවාද දෙන; clerical (not laic), පැවිදි, religious, ආගමානුකූල.

ශිපිවිෂ්ටයා, n. bald man, තට්ටයා, leper, ලාදුරු ලෙඩා.

ශුකරී, n. fem. sow, ඊරි.

ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිපතියා, n. Governor General, President, අග්‍ර ආණ්ඩුකාරතැන, යුවරජ.
